About the SelectUSA Investment Summit

The SelectUSA Investment Summit is the highest-profile event dedicated to promoting foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States. This signature event provides an unparalleled opportunity to bring together companies from all over the world, economic development organizations from every corner of the nation, and other parties working to facilitate business investment in the United States. Featuring senior government officials, C-Suite business executives, and other thought leaders, each summit focuses on a timely theme related to the U.S. investment environment, industry trends, and new opportunities. 

The SelectUSA Investment Academy is designed especially for investors and representatives from economic development organizations (EDOs) who want to make the most of the SelectUSA Investment Summit. Participants gain valuable, first-hand insight into the U.S. investment environment through focused, thematic sessions in which expert practitioners from a variety of investment-related fields share practical tools, strategies, and actionable information. 


In March 2015, SelectUSA welcomed close to 2,600 participants to Washington, D.C. from more than 70 international markets, including companies and business associations as well as EDOs from all 50 U.S. states and District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam.

Academy Program

Hundreds of investors and economic developers participated in the SelectUSA Academy, an intensive two-track pre-Summit orientation on the fundamentals of investing and promoting investment in the United States.

The first-ever Investment Summit sold out, with more than 1,300 participants, including a diverse mix of global investors, U.S. economic development organizations, government officials, U.S. companies, and business associations. Discussions at the Summit ranged from the overall advantages of investing in the United States to expert guidance of investor visas, infrastructure investment, startup resources, workforce development, and more.

Global CEOs and other business leaders representing major international firms such as BMW, Google, Nissan, Sony, and many more joined entrepreneurs at the Summit who have successfully grown their startups and SMEs in the United States. 

U.S. Ambassadors led recruitment, and many personally led high-quality delegations, and in an unprecedented show of support for investment attraction, more than 50 U.S. Chiefs of Mission participated on-site

During the comprehensive two-day event, participants used the online matchmaking system to coordinate more than 1,700 business meetings and many more meetings were facilitated by the U.S. Commercial Service and EDOs. The 72,000-sq ft Exhibit Hall was filled with economic developers, service providers, and government officials from the federal, state and local levels, showcasing investment opportunities from every corner of the United States.

Participants got the chance to hear from 97 top executives and senior federal and state officials in plenary and breakout sessions featuring President Obama, six Cabinet Secretaries, and three governors. Global CEOs and other business leaders represented major international firms such as Berkshire Hathaway, BMW, Google, Michelin, Nestlé, Nissan, Samsung, Sony, and more, as well as entrepreneurs who have successfully grown their startups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the United States.
